Founded by Frederick Murphy, "History Before Us" is a project committed to collecting and preserving history, as well as advocating how history influences the future. Read the blog and check out documentaries and films...the most recent is "Sweet Home Alabama: A Chief and His Protege."
International African American Museum, Charleston, SC
Scheduled to open in January 2023 in Charleston, South Carolina. It "will honor the untold stories of the African American journey." The museum will include a Center for Family History, and an African ancestors memorial garden, as well as programs and events. The museum is located at Gadsden's Wharf in Charleston, SC, one of the nation's most prolific slave trading ports.
Migratuse Ataraxia
A short film festival documentary from Alabama PBS TV. [time 9:57] About the film: A collaborative effort between Klein Arts and Cluture, the Alabama Dance Council, and Wideman Davis Dance Company. Together, they explore what it looks like to witness someone else's grief. "This powerful multimedia performance takes shape at Klein-Wallace plantation in Harpersville, AL. The collaboration offers a blueprint for reconciliation, healing, and hope for a way forward with shared narrative."
Speak On It! History & Genealogy Online Radio
An inspiring podcast series about history and geenalogy, featuring Janice Gilyard and Cherekana Feliciano with guests. Recent editions feature African American voices in South Carolina history, the journey of an antique dealer and historian, family history matters, and reclaiming kin. Tuscaloosa Civil Rights History & Reconciliation Foundation
A recently-formed nonprofit in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to preserve local civil rights hisotry, sites, and personal stories. They developed a Civil Rights History Walking Trail and host a variety of events, workshops and roundtables to promote racial reconciliation and anti-racism. Also, their webpage features several oral history videos and commentary on local African American history.
